US Secretary of State John Kerry appeared alongside China’s foreign policy chief during the weekend to emphasize China and American unity in pushing North Korea back to the nuclear negotiating table, Bloomberg reported. Kerry met with Yang Jiechi, the member of China’s top administrative body charged with overseeing foreign affairs, on Saturday. “China is firmly committed to upholding peace and stability and advancing the denuclearization process on the Korean peninsula,” Yang said. “The issue should be handled and resolved peacefully through dialogue.” Japan used Kerry’s visit to Tokyo on Sunday to call on China to further pressure North Korea to halt its nuclear program.
