China's carriers in the red

Due to rising jet fuel costs, China's airlines have lost more than US$40m during the first five months of this year, state media reported, citing official statistics. Beijing said it would try to help the carriers reduce their losses by gradually lifting restrictions on the civil aviation sector and by establishing a more advanced management system to distribute operating and usage rights for flight routes. It said it would also undertake efforts to reduce delays and improve efficiency.
