China's Danxia Landform proclaimed UNESCO World Heritage site

The Danxia Landform of China, located in several southeast provinces, was added to the World Heritage list on Sunday at the World Heritage Committee’s 34th meeting in Brazil, state media reported. The newest Chinese World Heritage site is described as red bed landforms with steep cliffs and includes six geologically and geographically related areas: Langshan and Wanfoshan in Hunan province, Danxiashan in Guangdong province, Taining and Guanzhoushan in Fujian province, Longhushan and Guifeng in Jiangxi province, Chishui in Guizhou province, Fangyan and Jianglangshan in Zhejiang province. The historic monuments of Dengfeng – including the Shaolin Temple and Songyang Academy, among others – in Henan province were also added to the list.
