China's draft postal law upsets industry

Local and foreign delivery companies say China's draft postal law will create unfair competition, the Financial Times reported. Industry representatives also told officials from the State Council last week that the new piece of legislation would violate trade agreements and destroy non-state businesses. They argue that the law would give China Post a monopoly over the delivery of parcels that weigh less that 150g, which account for 90% of couriers' intra-city business. The law would also tighten licensing requirements and payments for international companies like DHL, UPS and FedEx.
