China's foreign minister says Olympics won't be politicized

China's foreign minister said attempts to link next year's Beijing Olympic Games to the Darfur crisis in Sudan or other issues will fail, the AP reported. "There are a handful of people who are trying to politicize the Olympic Games," Yang Jiechi said at a news briefing. "Their objectives … will never be attained." China has been criticized for being too passive in stopping the Darfur crisis. It buys two-thirds of Sudan's oil exports and sells weapons and military aircraft in return. More than 200,000 people have been killed in Darfur since 2003, when local rebels took up arms against the Arab-dominated Sudanese government, accusing it of decades of discrimination against Darfur's ethnic Africans.
