China's communist leaders will attend the party's five-day assembly beginning this Saturday to address rising levels of unrest spurred by rampant corruption and the widening income disparities between the cities and impoverished countryside, China Daily reported. The meeting is also expected to provide party general secretary and President Hu Jintao a further venue to consolidate his political base and root out the remaining political influences of predecessor Jiang Zemin. This year, party leaders are expected to approve a plan for the next five years to deal with the country's income gap and widespread corruption.
