China's military may be building radar installations in South China Sea

Satellite images that appear to show China’s military building high-frequency radar installations on several Chinese-controlled parts of the Spratly Islands suggest a new angle for the country’s plans for the South China Sea, The Financial Times reported, citing photos released by the US think-tank Center for Strategic and International Studies. The group said the apparent installations would prove equally important to Beijing’s long-term strategy for the region as its recent deployment of anti-aircraft missiles, since the former “could significantly change the operational landscape in the South China Sea” thanks to their capacity to bolster monitoring and surveillance capabilities.
