China intends to launch a moon rover in 2012, according to Chinese media reports. The rover would be used to scout a site for constructing a moon base according to China space officials. Officials said the rover will be equipped with a camera, telescope and seismological equipment to investigate lunar quake activity. The rover's moon mission is scheduled to be preceded by a lunar probe, to be launched in 2007, that will orbit the moon for up to a year.
