China’s new cabinet gets approval from Congress

China’s top legislature, the National People’s Congress, has formally approved the formation of a new State Council headed by Premier Li Keqiang, Caixin Global reports, with President Xi’s key economic adviser Liu He promoted to vice premier.

The other three vice premiers of the council are: Han Zheng, former party secretary of Shanghai; Sun Chunlan, head of the Communist Party’s United Front Work Department; and Hu Chunhua, party secretary of Guangdong.

Together with four councillors, the State Council’s role will be to oversee the 26 ministries that emerged from last week’s major government restructuring.
