Mainland China’s top official for Taiwan affairs will make his first visit to the island, The China Post reported. Zhang Zhijun, minister of mainland China’s Taiwan Affairs Office, will head for Taiwan on June 23 and visit New Taipei City, Taichung City and Kaohsiung City, the Mainland Affairs Council said during a press conference on Thursday. Taiwan media outlets have questioned the appropriateness of the timing of Zhang’s visit in light of the recent rise in anti-China sentiment.
