Capital Airports Holding (CAH), China’s largest airport operator, plans to extend its presence in South America after bidding for the rights to renovate and manage six airports in Peru, the South China Morning Post reported, citing the company’s Colombia deputy CEO, Oscar Hernandez. The tender is worth up to US$240 million and a winner is expected to be announced by March next year. CAH, the parent of Beijing Capital International Airport, would also participate in the next two rounds of airport concessions in Colombia, Hernandez said, adding that the company was considering opportunities in Brazil, Chile, and other countries in the region. CAH’s only overseas operation is in Colombia, where its 20%-held consortium Air Plan won a concession in March last year to upgrade and run six Colombian airports for up to 25 years.
