Chinese freight volumes soar

Increases in traffic means more aircraft. 218 airliners will be required this year.

CAAC director general Li Jiaxiang says local airlines plan to buy 218 airliners this year. The 218 will include jumbo jets and regional jets.

The figures seem to warrant it.

Last year, Chinese airlines’ passenger numbers and freight volumes reached 230 million and 4.46 million tons, respectively, and CAAC estimates volumes will increase by another 12% this year. This year the cargo figures seem to be going stratospheric.

AirCargo Asia-Pacific reported Li said freight volumes had risen by 95% in January and February alone.
