Chinese government fines Sina over content

The Chinese government fined Sina Corporation (SINA.NASDAQ) US$815,000 (RMB5.1 million) for transmitting “unhealthy and indecent content” and planned to revoke certain licenses, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing a Friday statement by the Beijing-based Internet company. Sina said the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television would revoke Sina’s Internet-publication license and license for online transmission of audiovisual programs because of the content, which originated from third parties or was posted by users. The Beijing Municipal Cultural Market Administrative Law Enforcement Unit imposed the fine.
