Chinese institute criticizes Google's mobile dominance

A Chinese government research institute published a paper claiming that China is too reliant on Google’s (GOOG.NASDAQ) Android operating system, rousing speculation that the government will restrict the search company’s mobile business, The Wall Street Journal reported. The China Academy of Telecommunication Research, which is associated with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, said that Google has delayed sharing code in the most recent versions of Android with Chinese companies and restricted China’s smartphone makers through its commercial agreements. The US-based company holds an 82.6% share of the Chinese market for mobile operating systems, as well as about 70% of the global market.
