Chinese investment abroad almost doubled in 2004

As the government encouraged domestic companies to send capital overseas to balance off large foreign capital inflows, Chinese direct investment abroad increased to US$5.5 billion in 2004 from US$2.9 billion the year before. But it remained less than one-tenth the amount of foreign investment coming into China. The top destinations for Chinese capital were the US, Russia, Japan, Germany and Australia.
