[photopress:hamburgcontainers.jpg,full,alignright]The Chinese Prime Minister, Wen Jiabao, opened the Sino-European economic summit of the Chamber of Commerce Hamburg. He arrived in Hamburg accompanied by three ministers and a delegation of one hundred.
During the opening dinner of the conference in Hamburg’s city hall. Dr. Karl-Joachim Dreyer, head of the chamber of commerce, said, ‘Industry and commerce will make all efforts to support you and your country in its ongoing development. We plan on concentrating at eliminating the trade barriers between Europe and China.’
He emphasized in particular the outstanding importance of the relationships for Hamburg’s economy: more than two million containers are trans-shipped in Hamburg just in dealings with China. These are about 20 percent of all containers that are shipped between Europe and China.
‘If one were to line up these containers, this would be equal to the distance from Hamburg to Shanghai.’
