Chinese rail firm looks to build UK plant

China wants build engines for Britain

The European arm of China’s state train maker has told Dow Jones in a report in Cargo NewsAsia
it will build the UK’s second final assembly plant for trains if a Chinese manufacturer wins a key order for carriages.

Chinese Sourced Railway Equipment is considering setting up an assembly and testing plant if CSR Nanjing Puzhen wins the US$444 million order to build 200 carriages for diesel trains.

The move looks like an effort to overcome the strong advantages of Canada’s Bombardier in competing for the order, which has been brought forward as part of the government’s economic stimulus package.
