Chinese shopping trip to US

China announced it would send a business
delegation to the US on a high profile buying trip intended to allay American concerns over
trade imbalance that has seen China run up a US$130 billion surplus.

The shopping
list is expected to include dozens of jets and motor parts from Boeing and the total bill will
be in the billions of US dollars.

Chinese spokespeople said China wanted to buy
electronic, aviation and chemical industrial products but the US government had restricted
exports of these goods.

In addition to the buying trip, in another bid to ease US
concerns, the two countries agreed to set up three working groups to look at problems in
trade, textiles and intellectual property and the structural reform of China's economy.
