Chongqing Transportation and Travel has announced it will invest US$300 million in building 10 cruise ships to be delivered through 2012.
Chongqing Dongfeng Shipbuilding has already started construction of the first ship, Gold No.1, which will be put in operation on the Yangtze River by May 1. It can handle helicopters and has a modified golf course.
This cruise ship is 136 meters long and 19.6 meters wide, and has six floors and 161 guestrooms with capacity for 355 persons. It is, indeed, a floating five-star hotel.
The ship will have noise-reducing equipment, with the noise level in the rooms at only 40 decibels, quieter than that of an air conditioner.
China.org.cn reports that after Gold No.1’s launching, the other four ships will simultaneously start to be built. The last five cruise ships will be launched in the second half of 2012.
