Chongqing property tax

China’s central government has approved a plan by the municipality of Chongqing to levy a property consumption tax on high-end real estate, according to a report Tuesday in the mainland’s "National Business Daily."

The report said the tax would be targeted at individuals who bought multiple properties, as well as luxury units. The report also said the tax was part of a bigger pilot program involving a consumption tax that is planned to be introduced in other cities.

MarketWatch reports this has, of course, been suggested before but this appear to be the first time it has been published with offical approval.
