China’s railway transport capacity will exceed 4.5 billion tons by the end of 2015, of which coal transport capacity will be 2.4 billion tons, an unnamed source at the Ministry of Railway said.
By 2020, China is expected to have 6 billion tons of railway transport capacity. According to the source, this is something that is not going to happen in the short run since most of the railway projects approved between 2005 and 2010 are still under construction.
Citing figures from the ministry’s website, CapitalVue reported that China’s railways transported 3.32 billion tons of cargo last year, 1.75 billion tons of which was coal.
