Ma Yaohai, the 53-year-old mainland college professor accused of organizing swingers parties and holding private orgies has been sentenced to 3-1/2 years in prison, the South China Morning Post reported. Ma, a computer science professor at Nanjing University of Technology, was accused of organizing a swingers club where members met online to arrange private orgies in homes or hotels. Ma and 21 others were arrested last year and tried according to a 1997 law that has touched off a national debate on sexual freedom. The 21 other accused were given lighter sentences after they pled guilty. "It’s definitely not a fair case. It’s not based on the law … We can understand the reason behind it, but we can’t accept it," said Ma’s lawyer Yao Yong’an.
