A banker repatriated from the United States has been sentenced to 12 years for embezzlement, state media reported. Yu Zhendong, formerly the head of a Bank of China branch in the south of the country, was accused of involvement in embezzling US$485 million from his state-owned employer. Yu was the first Chinese official to be repatriated from the United States when he was returned to China two years ago, though thousands accused of corruption are believed to have fled there. The sentence was handed down by the Intermediate People's Court in Jiangmen, Guangdong Province, which also ruled that US$124,760 of his assets be seized.
