The State Administration of Press, Publication, Ratio, Film and Television has appointed computer engineer Nie Chenxi as the new president of state-run broadcaster China Central Television, South China Morning Post reported, citing a report from state-funded online magazine The Paper. The move comes after a number of the station’s producers and reporters have been detained in connection with graft investigations in recent years. Nie, 57, has spent much of his career in Hebei province, where he was the Communist Party’s propaganda chief and deputy governor of the province before becoming deputy director of SAPPRFT in October 2012, a position he will retain.
