[photopress:computerised_embroidery.jpg,full,alignright]Computers are now becoming more prominent in embroidery using CAD – Computer Aided Design. According to estimates, computerized embroidery machines can generate an income of over RMB50,000 per year.
Workers have a real time display of operations on the machine’s screen and only have to insert the fabrics. The rest of the production process is taken over by the machine. However, embroidery can raise the value of fabric by RMB10 per meter or more.
Nobody knows when or how embroidery started anywhere in the world but perhaps the earliest examples are those that survive from the Song dynasty. There were four renowned embroidery styles in China: Suzhou silk hand embroidery, also known as Su embroidery, Xiang, Yue and Shu.
Traditional Chinese embroidery was always free embroidery when designs are applied without regard to the weave of the underlying fabric. It is not known whether the computer clearly understands that.
