Beijing has defended China’s anti-piracy campaigns, noting that more than 4,000 people were convicted of product piracy in 2007, AP reported. A spokesman for the State Intellectual Property Office said at a news conference that "the Chinese government has take concrete steps and its success is there for all to see." Authorities said they seized 76 million pirated movies, software discs and goods last year and shut down 13,170 businesses involved in piracy.
