[photopress:london_school_of_economics.jpg,full,alignright]A Confucius Institute for Business has been established at the London School of Economics and Political Science. This is the sixth Confucius Institute to be launched in the UK. The others have been created with the aim of promoting Chinese language and culture and supporting local Chinese teaching the LSE is a bit different. It has a business focus.

Nick Byrne, director of the LSE language centre which is a world leader in this area, said, ‘In the first instance the focus will be on Chinese language for specific purposes, that is, Chinese for business. The longer term will include promoting educational co-operation between China and the UK.’

There has been increasing demand from LSE students for Chinese language classes and the school expects this to grow further following the launch of its dual degree with Peking University in international affairs and the LSE-Fudan degree in global media.
