[photopress:Hotels_Conrad_Shanghai.jpg,full,alignright]China’s first luxury Conrad hotel belonging to Hilton will be launched in Xintiandi, Shanghai in the end of next year. Conrad Hotels & Resorts as a sub-group may be part of the Hilton group of hotels but it is very keen to appear very different.
Richard Blamey, SVP Brand Management, Conrad Hotels & Resorts said that the company wants to ‘to highlight its image as a strong, stand-alone contemporary luxury brand. The change complements our updated Hotels & Resorts identity, which more accurately reflects our collection of extraordinary hotels and resorts across the globe.’
Conrad Hotels & Resorts currently has 17 properties around the world with new ones dues in Shanghai, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, The Bahamas and Koh Samui, Thailand.
The Conrad Shanghai, opening in 2008 in the heart of the Xintiandi district, has a design plan which will be what the company calls ‘ultra-contemporary’ inspired by traditional Chinese motifs. You may find that somewhat difficult to envisage and will have to wait for the opening to see how it looks in real life.
There will be 363 guest rooms and the food and beverage outlets will be in two standalone annexes.
It has been reported, but not confirmed, that there will also be a Conrad hotel in Beijing within the next four years.
