There will be a November opening of Conrad Hotels & Resorts’ The Conrad Shanghai visitor numbers into Shanghai are set to soar over the next couple of years due to global publicity for China around the upcoming 2008 Olympics and the Shanghai 2010 Expo.
The Conrad Shanghai is located in the heart of the thriving Xintiandi area. Xintiandi means ‘New Heaven on Earth’ and is widely acclaimed as China’s finest urban revitalisation project reflecting the historical and cultural legacies of the city.
A neighborhood of old Shikumen houses (an old form of building architecture found only in Shanghai), Xintiandi is a car-free area, with an exciting mix of restored traditional Shikumen housing and world-class modern architecture.
Dirk De Cuyper will be the General Manager of the Conrad Hilton. He was previously General Manager of Hilton Sanya Resort & Spa on Hainan Island.
The hotel’s ultra-contemporary design has been inspired by traditional Chinese motifs and will feature 362 guest rooms, anurban spa, state-of-the-art meeting facilities and two standalone annexes housing food and beverage and recreational facilities.
