US airplane manufacturer Boeing (BA.NYSE) won an order from Xiamen Airlines (a subsidiary of China Southern Airlines; ZNH.NYSE, 600029.SH, 1055.HK) for six model 787 Dreamliner passenger jets, the Seattle Times reported. The order, worth US$1.1 billion at list prices but more likely US$670 million after discounts, is the first win in 2011 for Boeing after it lost 12 orders earlier in the year. Xiamen Airlines has not finalized the order yet. In 2006 it placed, and then canceled, an order for three 787s. The 787 program also received news that its Rolls-Royce (RR.LON) engine has been certified for extended flight by the US Federal Aviation Administration.
