China’s overall power consumption rose 11.2% year-on-year in April to 376.8 billion kilowatt hours (kWh), marking a slower pace of growth compared with March’s increase of 13.4%, Reuters reported. The National Energy Administration’s figures stokes concerns that China is set for its worst power shortages since 2004. Central, southwestern and eastern provinces have introduced power restrictions and rationing since late March, well ahead of peak demand in the summer. China announced on Friday that it would suspend diesel exports to conserve supplies for domestic use.
