Shanghai port operations appeared to be normalizing on Sunday evening, after the local government announced that fees would be lowered to appease truckers who have been protesting since Wednesday, the Financial Times reported. The Shanghai government called on container shipping centers to cancel or lower a range of fees, including road tolls, those for unloading containers and charges for night-time loading. The protests – which caused temporary shipping disruptions – struck a nerve with Chinese officials, who have made controlling inflation their top economic priority.
