Tencent (0700.HKG) has launched an English version of its widely popular microblog service Weibo in a move to internationalize its user base, state media reported. The English version of the website will automatically load when accessed from a non-Chinese IP address, and the default language can also be changed from within China. Weibos run by Tencent and Sina (SINA.NASDAQ) offer services akin to Twitter, and have become a hub for online social networking and debate in China, including criticism of government officials and initiatives; more controversial content has seen posts deleted and user accounts removed. Currently 195 million people in China use microblogs, an increase of 208.9% in the year through June.
