China Three Gorges, the company which operates the Three Gorges Dam, announced on Sunday that it would overhaul its finances following a government audit, the Wall Street Journal reported. The firm said that an investigation by the National Audit Office (NAO) had found 31 “financial issues” that needed to be addressed. “The audit findings released by the NAO are a true reflection of our company’s problems,” said Sha Xianhua, a vice manager at the firm. “Tens of the problems mentioned in the audit findings have been rectified, and we are still working on the other problems.” The audit and admission of financial irregularities comes shortly after the State Council released a statement saying that the Three Gorges Dam had created social and environmental challenges, which it pledged to remedy.
