Volkswagen (VOW.ETR) is planning to produce the new US version of its Passat sedan in China in an effort to increase local production and broaden its product portfolio in the country, MaketWatch reported. According to a presentation by Volkswagen Chief Financial Officer Hans Dieter Poetsch published on the German automaker’s website. Poetsch made the presentation on September 26 when the group held a meeting with investors and analysts at its new US plant in Chattanooga Tenn. Volkswagen aims to expand in southern and western China with an expected US$19 billion investment from 2012 to 2016, which will be funded by local operations in China. The country has emerged as Volkswagen’s biggest single market ahead of its German home market.
