A former General Motors (GM.NYSE) engineer and her husband were sentenced to prison terms in the US on Wednesday for conspiring to sell trade secrets to China, Reuters reported. Former GM employee Shanshan Du, 54, received a roughly one-year prison sentence while her husband Yu Qin, 52, was sentenced to three years. The sentences for both US nationals were far below the eight to 10 years US government prosecutors originally sought. Both were convicted of taking confidential files relating to GM’s hybrid-electric vehicle designs and attempting to pass it to the company’s Chinese competitors through a shell company.
