June was a month of intensive activity at China Shipping Container Lines, culminating in the launching
of a new Asia/Europe service that will add another 150,000 teu of annualised capacity in the
marketplace. The move will help advance the long-stated ambition of company president Li
Kelin for CSCL to become a world top five container carrier in capacity terms.
From June,
CSCL will operate two services between Asia and Europe. One, the Asia Europe Express
(AEX), will continue to deploy eight 5,500-5,600 teu vessels, while the second, new loop will
operate eight or nine vessels of around 3,000 teu capacity.
The mainline AEX service will
include a call at Salalab both east and westbound. Mit-sui-OSK is understood to be close
to an agreement with CSCL on taking slots on the Far East/India/MediterraneaniEurope.
