Li Changchun, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, said during his five-day tour of southwestern Yunnan province that the region should "further combine ethnic cultural resources with tourist industry development and protect and inherit cultural heritage while exploiting it."
He called for improvements to the culture infrastructure and development of the culture industry in ethnic minority areas.
According to Li, "cultural tourism" could help increase farmers’ wealth and enhance social harmony. He called for expanded radio and TV coverage and the building of rural libraries in every village.
English.News.cn reports that while visiting local mobile and internet operators, Li said efforts should be made to ensure new media should spread "advanced socialist culture" in order to build a sound online environment for young people.
