Dalian, in northeast Liaoning province, has been ranked first in a livable city survey conducted by Beijing-based pollsters Horizon Group. Xiamen, in Fujian province ranked second and Mianyang, in Sichuan province, ranked third. Despite polishing itself for the 2008 Olympics, Beijing fell off the list of China’s 10 most livable cities to 15th place from No 3 last year. Increasingly traffic, rising housing prices and heavy pollution are blamed. Shanghai ranked seventh.
