Authorities finished cleaning up the last of the oil spill off the coast of Dalian, Liaoning province, on Monday, Reuters reported, citing state media. The spill, which began after a pipeline blast on July 16, leaked an estimated 1,500 metric tones into the surrounding ocean. Local officials employed some 800 fishing boats and clean-up vessels to combat the spill with chemical dispersants, absorbents, and oil-composting bacteria. The spill forced PetroChina (PTR.NYSE, 601857.SH, 0857.HK) to cut refinery production and divert vessels to other ports. Dalian Port Company (2880.HK) re-opened two berths at the Dalian Xingang oil terminal, each with a capacity to dock 150,000 dead weight tonnage tankers and 80,000 dead weight tonnage vessels. However, the main crude terminal, with capacity to dock 300,000 ton crude oil carriers, remains closed.
