Altogether, 6,000 acres are under development between Dallas, Wilmer, Hutchins and Lancaster, to create the Dallas Logistics Hub, the largest logistics park in North America. And much of it is to deal with traffic create by China. The current Union-Pacific Intermodal facility handles more than 300,000 ocean-going containers annually.
Dan McAuliffe, vice-president of development, the Allen Group, said, ‘All of those containers are coming from China. The transit route is already established. This is where we’ve got to be.’ They have not as yet started work and it is expected the entire transformation will take decades. But it shows how important the China trade is now and how important it is to be expected to be for the next several decades.
