Datang International Power takes new coal mine stake

To ensure steady fuel supplies, Datang International Power Generation, which supplies electricity to Beijing, Tianjin and Tanshan, said it will spend US$37.3 million (RMB 310 million) on coal mining operations. Datang is using RMB 210 million of the amount to acquire a 28% stake in a mine in Shanxi province. The move will also enable Datang to increase power generation. Some 24 of China's 30 power grids had fuel shortages last year.
