Death sentence in brick kiln slavery case

A death sentence and 28 jail terms were meted out to people who ran a Shanxi province brick kiln using slave labor, AFP reported. A worker at the kiln, was sentenced to death by the provincial high court for beating a mentally disabled worker to death, and the kiln's foreman was sentenced to life in jail. Kiln owner Wang Bingbing was given a nine-year jail term. Wang's father, a village party secretary, was expelled from the party. Officials say 576 enslaved workers have been rescued from brick kilns in Henan, Shanxi and Shaanxi provinces.
