Defects in 23% of sampled solar panels planned for use in China could drastically reduce energy production capability, Bloomberg reported, citing regulators and a statement from the industry group China Renewable Energy Society. For samples from the eastern province of Jiangsu where much of the defective glass in question is made, the rate was as high as 40%. “A reduction in power generation caused by quality imperfections means declining investment returns or even losses from solar farms,” said Meng Xiangan, vice chairman of the society.
