Demonstrators blame hospital for boy's death

At least 10 people were injured in fights with police as around 2,000 demonstrators mobbed a hospital in southwest China's Sichuan province following the death of a three year-old boy, the Hong Kong-based Information Center for Human Rights said Sunday. The protestors were calling on Guang'an City No.2 People's Hospital to take responsibility for the death after it sent away the boy's grandfather to raise more money for treatment, AP reported. By the time the grandfather returned, the boy, who became sick after accidentally swallowing farm chemicals, had died. It was not clear if any effort was made to treat the child. Five people were detained as the demonstrators smashed windows and equipment in the hospital, forcing it to close. Armed police then set up roadblocks in the area.
