In just three years, the Pearl River Delta has become the source of most of the world’s low-cost digital still cameras and most of China’s exported USB (universal serial bus) flash drives. China now produces about 70% of the world’s low-cost digital cameras and has produced a cumulative total of nearly 20 million units. More than 90% of China’s digital camera makers are in Shenzhen, Guangzhou and Dongguan, in the Pearl River Delta.
China’s production of all types of digital camera is expected to surpass that of Taiwan and South Korea in two years. Japan is the world’s leading producer of all types of digital camera by value.
