Wang Baoan, director of China’s National Bureau of Statistics, is being probed by the party’s disciplinary arm on suspicion of corruption, The Financial Times reported, citing a statement from the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection released shortly after Wang had told reporters at a press conference that the “long-term fundamentals of the Chinese economy are improving.” Wang first rose through the ranks of China’s finance ministry, where he became a deputy minister before his short tenure at the statistics bureau.
