Domestic travel buoyed by Expo

Demand for domestic travel is surging ahead of the World Expo. Domestic trips in China are usually booked 2-weeks in advance. But tour agents in Tianjin are already being flooded with requests for transport and accommodation in May when the World Expo begins in Shanghai.

Visitors are already signing up for the World Expo Tour not only see Expo Park, but also scenic sights in nearby cities.
A Dalian tour agency has arranged charter flights to Shanghai during the expo.
All seats on the first charter flight are already booked.
The price for a room in a four-star Shanghai hotel is currently around $43. During the Expo, it could reach $117.
CCTV.com states it is expected more than 70 million people will visit the Park during the Shanghai World Expo. But tour agencies can only organize very limited groups, so many people will have to take individual tours.

Industry insiders recommend visitors arrive in Shanghai in June or September to avoid the travel peak.
