North Korea’s nuclear program will dominate the agenda as Chinese President Xi Jinping and Korean President Park Geun-hye hold talks in Seoul this week, Reuters reported, citing South Korean officials. Both sides are expected to call on Pyongyang to abandon its nuclear ambitions, although Beijing will make sure it is not seen as taking sides. China is usually guarded in its opinion on Pyongyang’s nuclear program, but recent nuclear tests have tested its support. Still, Beijing is unlikely to step beyond its stated position calling for a negotiated solution through talks involving the US, while insisting it is in no position to push the North.
