Drought affects southeast
A severe drought in south and east China since June has affected more than 90m people in 12 provinces, reported Guangming Daily. The worst affected areas in Zhejiang, Fujian and Jiangxi provinces had suffered between 50 and 80 per cent drops in rainfall. The weather destroyed harvests over more than 1m hectares of farmland, caused drinking water shortages for 14m people and has seen temperatures rise as high as 43�C.
